What is Hearthen?
Hearthen is an app created to get people talking to each other again. It encourages communication to strengthen personal relationships — a tool on your screen designed to get you out into the world and away from the screen.
Your data stays with you — on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud or Google account.

How does it work?
It makes reaching out easy and fast. Every contact gets a profile detailed enough to be meaningful. A coach suggests a rhythm for each relationship, drawing on research into how closeness is kept (roughly — a compass, not a formula), and when the time comes, messages that sound like you are ready — send one as it is, or make it your own. When a message isn’t enough, a card is a few taps away: send it by text or email, or have us print and mail it for you. Remembering to reach out stops being on you, and busy stops being the reason. You can go from reminder to message, or even to a custom card, in seconds.
What makes Hearthen unique?
You can call, text, WhatsApp or send a card to your people, and each one adds a piece to a canvas that shows how the relationship grows — something you can see, and share with that person and with your family. Each piece can carry a note and a picture (the movie, the dinner, the coffee), so the canvas becomes a scrapbook of the relationship, kept on your device. Put that canvas on the front of a custom greeting card, with your pictures and moments inside, and you have a gift only you could give — meaningful and special.
Is it practical?
Parents use it to keep the week organized (the game, the recital); professionals and sales reps use it to stay on top of key relationships — the calendar, the events, the next steps. And there’s more in it for having fun with your friends, or with that special someone.
Is your information safe?
We couldn’t access it if we wanted to. Everything you enter stays on your own device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud or Google account. Hearthen has no account and no sign-up, and no ads — ever.
What does it cost?
Everything is free for the first month. After that, keep the free version for as long as you like — five people, with the coach, the messages, the cards and the canvas — or go Premium for unlimited people, every message voice, every card cover, every canvas style, the calendar and Follow-ups. A Family plan is one subscription for the whole family: five people, all Premium, each on their own phone. The free month doesn’t turn into a subscription on its own — you’re only billed if you choose Premium.

The coach
It knows when, and what to say.
Say how close you are and how close you’d like to be, and the coach suggests a rhythm — weekly for the closest, a few times a year for the outer ring. When it’s time, they’re at the top of your list, and three messages are ready. Tweak anything and send from your own texting app; they just get a warm message from you.
It reads how the relationship feels, too. If one has stayed one-sided, it suggests a lighter touch first — and, after a while, permission to ease off. And when a bond is ready for more, it says so: the call, the coffee, the visit.

The calendar
One calendar for all of it.
Birthdays, anniversaries, the first day at the new job. Every check-in due and every special day on one calendar, so you see what’s coming before it’s on top of you.
Make a plan — dinner Thursday at 7 — and it goes on your calendar and, in a text, to them. Write the message or the card ahead; it’s saved for the day. One tap adds any date to your phone’s own calendar.
Follow-ups
Everything you do for your people, in one place.
Every person’s page keeps a history — the conference where you met, what they told you, the thing you said you’d do. Hang a next step on it with a date: send the deck, book the appointment, the playdate on Saturday. It shows on the calendar and reminds you on the day.
Follow-ups gathers every open step, across everyone, into one list. Check it off, or message them from right there. Export the whole list as a spreadsheet, or any one relationship’s history as a PDF.

New covers arrive ahead of each holiday — and sometimes just because.
Pick the occasion and a cover. Hearthen offers a few messages written for that occasion; take one and make it yours, or write your own. Add photos if you like — one in a frame, or up to five in a layout. Then send it by text or email, free. Or have it printed on quality card stock with archival pigment ink — the kind of card people notice, and keep — and mailed for you. $7 for one, less in quantity.

Decades of evidence say tended relationships are among the strongest predictors of a long, happy life — the U.S. Surgeon General’s 2023 advisory called our thinning ties a public-health problem. The research also shows how they’re kept: closeness comes in layers, each with its own pace; shared time deepens what messages keep warm; and a note meant for one person carries further than a post meant for everyone. Hearthen turns those patterns into a gentle practice — a compass, not a formula.
